Turkish-Ukrainian Inter-University
Virtual Platform

March 31, 2023

On March 31, the Kyiv School of Diplomatic Arts launched the online series of Ukraine-Turkey Inter-University Virtual-Platform Meetings.

The Turkish academic community was represented by the faculty and the International Relations students of the Kadir Has University in Instabul. They met their counterparts from 14 Ukrainian institutions of higher education.

The event’s purpose was to provide the younger generation of the IR scholars with an opportunity to exchange questions and answers on the matters concerning the situation in the Black Sea region and in both countries.

The agenda of the first meeting was centered on these issues:

  1. The stereotypes and regional security: How do we comprehend the nations around the Black Sea (incl. their history and cultural patterns) and how this habitual comprehension may influence the foreign policies of our countries?
  2. The cases of dangerous misconceptions, especially those that pertain to the ideas of “historical justice” and “historical rights to rule”.
  3. The Kremlin’s propaganda and the response to its narratives in Turkey and Ukraine.
  4. Building the bridges of friendship between Turkey and Ukraine: How do we work with collective identities, historical mentalities, and cultural codes? What the bridge builders need to know?
  5. Student formats of peer learning to grasp the aforementioned matters.

The Kyiv School of Diplomatic Arts would like to express its sincere gratitude to Dr. Serhat Güvenç, Professor of International Relations at the Kadir Has University, for his key part in organizing and carrying out the meeting.
